Following their presentation before Parliament on July 20th Tote Sport Betting was able to release the annual report and accounts for the previous 12 months and in which records huge betting profits.

Chief Executive Trevor Beaumont said: ?The performance has been pleasing under some difficult circumstances common with the rest of the betting industry.

"Since joining the Tote in November 2004 I have reviewed all aspects of the business and it is vital we secure the Totes future by establishing its position as a leading player in the betting and gaming industry."

On June 1st 2005 the European Commission announced it was going to hold a formal investigation into the proposed sale of the Tote.

Chairman Peter Jones said: "The Tote is confident that the European Commission will approve plans for the sale of the Tote to the Racing Trust. The Government?s proposals for the future of the Tote are fair to racing and the taxpayer. They allow for Britain to become the most competitive market for racing pool products in Europe.

"On closer examination we are sure that the European Commission will see the benefits of the proposals. We would urge a speedy conclusion to the deliberation as we have been waiting for 18 years for the sale of the Tote and even our patience is wearing thin."
